GEMMS
INTRODUCES MedSync, A MOBILE VERSION OF ECIS
-
INDIANAPOLIS
(November 12, 2001)
- Gateway Electronic Medical Management Systems (GEMMS), developer
of the nation's first fully integrated, cardiology-specific
electronic clinical information system (ECIS), today announced
the availability of MedSync, a mobile version of ECIS that
expands the system's capabilities to remote clinics and hospitals.
The original GEMMS ECIS system, launched nationally in 1999,
is an office-based system that must be connected by either
a Local Area Network or Wide Area Network in order for the
physician to be in constant contact with the main database.
The new MedSync allows cardiologists, clinical technicians
and office staffs to utilize the ECIS system's functions without
being connected to the main GEMMS ECIS server.
MedSync allows users to download all vital patient information
and documentation needed for the day's appointments from the
GEMMS database to a lap top computer, which can then be taken
to remote clinics or hospital locations. This allows users
to enjoy the full benefits of the GEMMS ECIS system at off-site
locations.
"MedSync allows the physician to have essentially the
same functionality of the larger GEMMS ECIS system at any
site where they see patients, " says Rodger P. Pinto,
Ph.D., chief executive officer of GEMMS, "Users can review
downloaded documents, conduct clinical encounters with patients,
write and print prescriptions, update medications and problem
lists, create orders, and develop a bill from any remote location.
"

Once back in their office, MedSync users can synchronize the
data collected at remote sites, program updates to master
files, and transmit all orders and bills. In addition, the
new documents are uploaded to the master clinical repository.
ECIS Overview
GEMMS developed its ECIS system in one of the nation's largest
cardiology practices. Working within this living laboratory
allowed GEMMS to witness how physicians, medical technicians
and administrative professionals interacted with the system
in an actual practice setting, thus allowing them to build
ECIS based on how people use its modules and features. It
is the most comprehensive and advanced practice automation
solution available today for cardiology practices.
ECIS
automates the entire workflow process of a cardiology practice,
including:
·
Physician and medical professional scheduling and appointment
settings
· Diagnostic test scheduling
· Patient registration
· Patient monitoring in exam rooms
· Nurse station tasks
· Patient encounter documentation
· Pharmacy orders
· Billing and collections
