INDIANAPOLIS
(November 12, 2001) -- Gateway Electronic Medical Management
Systems (GEMMS), developer of the nation's first fully integrated,
cardiology-specific electronic clinical information system
(ECIS), today announced the release of MEDgo, a personal
digital assistant (PDA) module designed to assist cardiologists
during hospital round visits.
MEDgo integrates the GEMMS ECIS system with the popular
Compaq IPAQ Pocket PC. With MEDgo, cardiologists can now
use the IPAQ PDA device to capture and sort patient information
quickly and easily during rounds. This information can include:
basic patient demographics, admission diagnosis, medication,
problem list updates and complete hospital billing. Information
collected by the cardiologist during hospital rounds can
then be uploaded into the office-based GEMMS ECIS system,
thus improving office staff efficiency by eliminating manual
entry of this data.
"Medgo eliminates the need to collect face sheets and
to store billing information on scraps of paper throughout
the rounding visit, " says Rodger P. Pinto, Ph.D.,
chief executive officer of GEMMS. "MEDgo offers cardiologists
access to updated problem list, medications and patient
demographics, thus allowing them to more effectively monitor
the patient's condition and treat their medical needs."
MEDgo
follows standard workflow processes and procedures and uses
pop-up lists, check boxes and multiple-choice items to enable
data entry with only a few taps of a stylus on the PDA device.
In addition, a built-in notepad enables physicians to capture
handwritten comments.
