RELEASES VERSION 5 OF THE NATION'S LEADING
CARDIOLOGY-SPECIFIC ELECTRONIC CLINICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM
Indianapolis,
Indiana (August 22, 2002) Gateway Electronic Medical
Management Systems (GEMMS), the developer of the nations
first fully integrated, cardiology-specific electronic clinical
information system (ECIS), today announced the release of the
latest version of GEMMS ECIS, Version 5, featuring several
significant enhancements. Loaded with customer-suggested features,
Version 5 is bigger and faster.
One
of the most exciting new features of Version 5 is its speed. The
application now runs nearly 20 percent faster. In addition to
the increased speed, images can now be viewed at 150 percent,
as opposed to the compressed image and one of the most anticipated
features of Version 5 is its ability to mark a file by date before
it is placed it into the system.
GEMMS
has built our customer satisfaction philosophy from the basic tenet
to provide our clients with systems and services that improve their
medical practice, said Larry Grider, COO of GEMMS. This
philosophy is the foundation from which we built the latest version
of our ECIS application. While there are many visible enhancements
in Version 5, the major difference is in the architecture of programs.
-
Multi-tiered
architecture. Version 4 was designed to be a Client/Server application
while Version 5 is much more scalable, with portions of the code
now be able to run on remote computers.
The new design makes the software lighter. In Version
5, fewer resources are used in both CPU and network bandwidth requirements.
It also allows clients to use local system resources such as video
and sound, which arent found in designs like the Citrix terminal
mode.
Version
5's capabilities can best be compared to a web browser (user station)
communicating with a web server (GEMMS application server), which
in turn communicates with the database (SQL Server), making the new
version three-tiered.
-
Better
more Secure communication.
Communications between the GEMMS client portion of the application
and the GEMMS Net Service now occur using TCP/IP Sockets, which
is the same technology used for communications between web browsers
and web servers.
The new interface mirrors that of the Version 4 interface, but is
now capable of a symbiotic relationship between GEMMS and browser-based
applications or data, allowing one to launch the other. For example,
decision trees can automatically display certain web pages.
Because of higher security requirements, GEMMS has designed the
interface so that it uses a different channel than the
web browsers and the data is encrypted at the packet level. Because
of these extra security measures, data transfer between GEMMS modules
cannot be sniffed even when used on the public Internet.
-
Efficient
and effective. In the new version, the client software performs
its own updates during login and automatically detects version differences
from the server. Unlike previous versions, Version 5 requires no
prior setup on the client workstation; a standard Pentium computer
connected to the Internet can receive an automatic installation
of the GEMMS Client without technical support. If the user accidentally
destroys the installation, it can be reinstalled by repeating the
procedure. Additionally, server side tools are now available to
monitor users and broadcast messages
