At
the heart of the
GEMMS
ONE system
is a point-of-service, wireless data collection and documentation
system. The users access and enter data stored on a network
server via an RF (radio frequency) interface using tablet-computers.
The information is managed through easy-to-follow "Decision
Trees" that guide the user through the system.
Among
a GEMMS ONE
system's other benefits is your ability to integrate your clinical
and fiscal information into a single database that is available anywhere
at anytime, regardless of the size of your practice, and gives you
the ability to capture the true operating costs of your practice.
GEMMS ONE provides
you the ability to create and manage a standard of care and identify
which procedures lead to specific outcomes. It allows an integrated
long-term and linear patient record, thus allowing physicians to
effectively track a patient’s medical progress.

In
an emergency situation, optimal health care can be compromised by
inaccurate or incomplete medical data, adverse drug interactions
and incorrect diagnoses. Physicians and health care professionals
can more effectively avoid these problems when patients have their
complete medical record when entering the emergency room. But what
is the chance of patients having their record in an emergency situation?
GEMMS MYRECORD
increases those odds significantly:
- Patient
records are downloaded from the GEMMS ONE system directly
to a mini compact disk that patients can carry in their wallet
or purse.
- Physicians
can insert this disk into any computer and obtain instant access
to critical medical information, such as allergies, current medications,
active diagnoses and primary care physician contacts, thus helping
them make the right treatment decisions and even save lives.
- Your
patients can rest assured that should they find themselves in a
medical crisis where they cannot talk and attending physicians
are unable to reach you for information immediately, GEMMS
MYRECORD will
be there to speak for them.

Finally,
there is a low cost solution for your paper Explanation of Benefits “EOB” paper problem.
GEMMS XSCAN, external scanning allows the practice to truly become “paperless”
GEMMS
XSCAN
software is designed to permit the capture of paper based Explanation
of Benefits (EOB) by converting them to digital TIFF images. User
indexing is by “Pay Date”, GEMMS Batch Number” plus
an additional value for “Provider Code” and allows for
archival and retrieval.
EOB Scanning
“Capturing” the documents consist of indexing and Scanning.
First the user enters the “Pay Date”, the GEMMS Batch Number” and “Provider
Code” (if desired). The documents to be scanned are placed in
the scanner and the “Scan “button is pressed. The scanner
will continue to pull all pages from the feeder and add them to the
current Batch Number under the Pay Date entered. Once scanning is complete
for that particular batch number, the user may enter the next Batch
Number and for the same Pay Date or if the Pay Date is different, the
user must enter the new “Pay Date” and Batch Number”.
The user has the option of changing the scanner setting as necessary.
EOB Retrieval/Viewing
Authorized
users may retrieve documents by entering the “Pay
Date” which will display all “Batch Numbers” associated

GEMMS
LINK is a valuable tool that allows
practices to receive accurate and timely lab test results via a bi-directional
electronic link with the laboratory. Designed to reduce manual entry
and paper output associated with lab tests, it helps to increase
the quality of health care by providing physicians with test results
expediently and with a minimum of error. Utilizing a directory of
the lab’s test codes and insurance codes, it automates
the entire process, from electronic orders to results.
Test orders are created inside MedInformatix ordering system and sent
to the lab electronically. Results are then received electronically
and are stored directly in the patient’s chart for viewing and
analysis. Physicians are notified automatically via electronic message
inside GEMMS ONE with the patient’s chart attached.
Bi-Directional Laboratory Interfaces
GEMMS LINK is fully integrated with GEMMS ONE. There are three bi-directional Laboratory Interfaces:
to national labs, to regional labs, and to a practice’s
in-house laboratory information system (L.I.S.).
National Laboratory Interfaces
Bi-Directional interfaces with some of the nation’s largest
national labs:
• LabCorp®
• Quest®
• Spectrum®
Regional Laboratory Interfaces
GEMMS LINK interfaces with regional labs are available, with
others in development:
• Sunrise Medical Laboratories
In-House Laboratory Interfaces
Many practices utilize their own in-house lab equipment which
is managed by a Laboratory
Information System (L.I.S.). GEMMS LINK interfaces with many
of these systems, provides full functionality of the national or
regional lab interfaces. Systems include, with others in development:
• Fletcher-Flora LabPac®
• Antec Labdaq®
• Orion ALS™
• Orchard Haverst™
• Comtron Labgen™

The Advanced Claim Checker is a valuable tool that allows practices
to check out-going claims before submitting to the insurance company.
It is designed to reduce claim rejections and coding errors not compliant
with the current standards and specifications. Using the Advanced Claim
Checker assures that virtually 100% of all out-going claims are submitted
clean the first time (from a clinical standpoint).
Utilizing Unicor’s Coding System technology, the Advanced Claim
Checker performs over 2.5 million edits on all out-going claims. In
addition, an unlimited number of practice defined custom edits can
be created based on special needs. Custom Rules can be built using
virtually every field in GEMMS ONE that deals with claims, for example rules
that allow errors to be ignored.
Checking and Editing Claims
The Advanced Claim Checker uses the same filter criteria as the
GEMMS ONE
Claims Processing screen. Data is organized by episode and alphabetically
by patient. When an episode is selected, all information including
all line items for that episode are shown. Every error for each line
item, complete with full descriptions, are displayed and color coded
for easy viewing.
Episodes and incorporated Line Items can be modified directly in
the Advanced Claim Checker, which are automatically updated in GEMMS
ONE.
The episode is then rechecked dynamically, immediately checking that
the error has been corrected. If desired, claims can be automatically
or manually put on hold in the Advanced Claim Checker, which is reflected
in GEMMS ONE, so clean claims can be sent without delay.
Tools and Information
Tools are included allowing research about procedure codes and descriptions,
Diagnosis descriptions, modifier descriptions, and supporting diagnosis
based on the Unicore database. This is useful in helping the practice
search different procedure codes with possible higher reimbursement
levels or for procedure descriptions and additional notes. Also, in
the event a supporting diagnosis is needed, the Advanced Claim Checker
will search and display supporting diagnosis codes for the procedure
selected on the line item.
